Residents of Inkil community in Bauchi Local Government Area have heaved a sigh of relief following the commissioning of a multi-million naira water supply project by the Wunti Alkhair Foundation, an initiative of renowned philanthropist, Dr. Bala Mai Jama’a Wunti. The project is aimed at tackling the long-standing challenge of inadequate access to potable water in the community.
Representing Dr. Bala Mai Jama’a Wunti at the commissioning ceremony, Barrister Umar Abubakar said the Foundation remains committed to implementing sustainable projects that directly improve the living conditions of underserved communities. He described access to clean water as a basic human necessity and assured residents that the Foundation would continue to invest in interventions that promote health, dignity and socio-economic development.
Earlier, the Foundation’s Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, Abubakar Muhammad Ƴanmaza, explained that the project was conceived following persistent appeals from residents over water scarcity. He noted that the Foundation had previously executed similar projects in Turum community of Bauchi Local Government Area and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to community-driven development across the state.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Ladan Garba Marafan Inkil expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Bala Mai Jama’a Wunti and the Foundation for responding to the community’s needs. He recounted the hardships residents endured before the intervention, noting that women and children often trekked long distances in search of water, especially during the dry season.
Delivering his remarks, Alhaji Mai Jama’a Wunti called on affluent Nigerians and other well-meaning citizens to embrace philanthropy by supporting initiatives that uplift vulnerable communities. He stressed that no contribution is too small in changing lives and urged the people of Inkil to safeguard and properly maintain the water facilities.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bala Wunti Support Organization, Comrade Mukhtar Jarmajo, described the project as a timely intervention that would improve access to safe drinking water and reduce the health risks associated with unsafe water sources. He said the Foundation would continue to support initiatives that improve the welfare of vulnerable populations.
Providing details of the project, the coordinator, Alhaji Surajo Caps, disclosed that the scheme comprises 12 strategically located water points across Inkil community. He described it as one of the Foundation’s largest community-based water interventions in Bauchi State, capable of serving thousands of residents daily.
The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by traditional rulers, religious leaders, community representatives, women and youth groups, as well as supporters of the Foundation, who applauded Dr. Bala Mai Jama’a Wunti for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and grassroots development through impactful interventions.
