The United Nations Children’s Fund and the Global Affairs Canada have donated 45 motorcycles to the Bauchi State Government to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

The donation is part of efforts to improve immunization coverage and enhance maternal and child health services, particularly in hard-to-reach and underserved communities.

The motorcycles, comprising brand-new Boxer models, were officially handed over through the Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare by the Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dr. Rafique, alongside UNICEF Health Officer Seyi Olosunde, said the intervention is designed to bridge access gaps in primary healthcare service delivery. She noted that the allocation—an average of two motorcycles per local government area—will support frontline health workers in reaching vulnerable populations and ensuring that no child is left behind in routine immunization efforts.

According to her, the initiative underscores the commitment of development partners to support the state in addressing critical healthcare challenges and improving health outcomes for women and children.

Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Sani Dambam, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system.

He highlighted key achievements recorded under the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed over the past six years, noting that the government has prioritized investments in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, and service delivery.

Dr. Dambam assured that the motorcycles would be deployed in line with the guidelines provided by the donors to support routine immunization, reduce maternal and child mortality, and improve adolescent health services across the state.

He also warned that strict monitoring mechanisms would be enforced to ensure proper use of the motorcycles, stressing that any misuse would attract appropriate sanctions.

The donation is expected to significantly enhance last-mile healthcare delivery and improve access to essential health services in rural and hard-to-reach communities across Bauchi State.
