The Bauchi State Government has moved to reassure residents that healthcare services will continue seamlessly as the Specialist Hospital Bauchi undergoes a full-scale rehabilitation aimed at modernizing the facility.
Chief Medical Director, Professor Abdulkarim Garba Mairiga, told journalists that the reconstruction is part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s agenda to upgrade public health infrastructure and improve patient care in the state.
Despite the closure of the main facility, he confirmed that essential services have been redistributed across strategic points within Bauchi metropolis to prevent disruption in treatment. While the New Isolation Centre will now host emergency, paediatric, eye, and ear care, other services such as surgery, pharmacy, laboratory and gynaecology have been placed at Tashan Babiye Primary Healthcare Centre.
Maternity services, immunization, and the HIV Clinic will continue operations at Urban Maternity Kofar Ran, a move Professor Mairiga said was designed to ensure smooth access for women and children.
He acknowledged that bed capacity will drop significantly—from 350 to below 100—due to the temporary relocation, but assured residents that no patient will be stranded or denied treatment.
Professor Mairiga expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for approving what he described as a transformative rehabilitation project expected to elevate Specialist Hospital Bauchi to a leading medical institution in Nigeria once completed.
