PDP Reacts to Court Judgment, Says National Convention Will Hold as Planned

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Kolawole Omotosho as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Honorable Debo Ologunagba, the party maintained that the court’s ruling does not affect or invalidate its plans to hold the forthcoming National Convention to elect new national officers that will steer the party’s affairs for the next four years.

The PDP cited a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, and therefore urged its members, chapters, and organs to remain steadfast and focused on preparations for the convention.

While reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the PDP disclosed that it has instructed its legal team to immediately appeal the judgment in its determination to defend and promote multi-party democracy in Nigeria.
