Governor Bala Charges Emir of Bauchi on Strengthening Leadership in New Emirates, Unveils More Rural Road Projects

By Mubarak Aliyu Kobi

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu, to take an active supervisory role over the newly established emirates created from his domain, to ensure a more coordinated and effective traditional leadership structure across the state.

Speaking during another phase of the statewide flag-off of rural road construction projects, the governor explained that the establishment of additional emirates was a strategic decision aimed at bringing governance closer to the people, especially in areas that have long suffered administrative neglect.

He clarified that the government’s action was not intended to undermine the authority of any traditional ruler but to strengthen grassroots administration by expanding the reach of traditional institutions.

Governor Bala noted that this approach would help close gaps in leadership and enhance the visibility of traditional authorities where they are most needed.

The governor further stated that the Emir of Bauchi, as Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, holds a central responsibility in guiding the new traditional heads, monitoring their activities, and ensuring that the objectives behind the newly created emirates are fully realized.

On the ongoing rural road intervention, Governor Bala said his administration secured support from the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, RAAMP, as well as development partners, following an assessment of the hardships rural communities face in transportation, trade, and access to basic services.

He added that the roads project is part of a broader government effort aimed at improving community livelihoods, supporting agricultural value chains, and boosting economic opportunities by linking remote settlements with markets, healthcare facilities, schools, and other essentials that drive rural development.
