The executive chairmen of the twenty local government areas of Bauchi State, under the auspices of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), led by their Chairman, Mahmood Babama’aji, have expressed great concern over what they described as the continued intimidation, investigation, and arbitrary arrest of Bauchi State government officials under Governor Bala Mohammed, allegedly under the guise of fighting corruption.
Mahmood Babama’aji said the press briefing was not intended to undermine the legitimacy or the constitutional responsibilities of any federal government agency, but rather to set the record straight for Nigerians.
ALGON condemned recent actions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including attempts to link the governor and his administration with terrorism, describing the allegations as defamatory, dangerous, and capable of eroding public trust and undermining national security efforts.
The council chairmen noted that Governor Bala Mohammed has consistently demonstrated a commitment to democracy, peace, and cooperation with the federal government, adding that Bauchi State has emerged as one of the most peaceful states in the North-East and northern Nigeria.
They said his inclusive leadership style, which accommodates all ethnic and religious groups across the state, has strengthened unity and peaceful coexistence.
Drawing from their firsthand knowledge of grassroots security conditions, the ALGON leaders categorically debunked the alleged terrorism accusations, stressing that the governor’s two-term administration has focused on community policing, strong collaboration with security agencies, and sustained peace-building initiatives across the state.
Reaffirming their loyalty and support for Governor Bala Mohammed, ALGON called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to uphold democratic values and prevent the misuse of federal institutions for political purposes.
They warned that selective justice and political intimidation pose serious threats to Nigeria’s democracy and urged the federal government to distance itself from what they described as disgruntled politicians seeking to create political tension.
