The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a six-man syndicate involved in a gruesome ritual attack that led to the plucking of the eyes of a seven-year-old girl, identified as Rukayya Muhammad, in Soro, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the case was reported to the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters on the 17th of October, 2025, by the victim’s father, Muhammad Adamu, who resides in Bayan Dutse village, Wailo, Kubi Ward of Ganjuwa LGA.

Mr. Adamu told the police that his 17-year-old son, Auwal Dahiru, attacked his younger sister with the intention of killing her and attempted to pluck out her eyes. Acting on the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Soro Division, CSP Aliyu Mohammed Goni, immediately led a team of detectives to the scene of the incident, resulting in the arrest of the suspect and the rescue of the victim.

The victim, little Rukayya, was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention, where doctors confirmed that she had permanently lost her sight due to the severity of the attack.

During investigation, the police arrested five additional suspects linked to the ritual plot. They include Mohammed Rabiu, aged 19; Saleh Ibrahim, aged 20; Nasiru Muhammad; Hassan Garba; and Garba Dahiru, aged 43, all residents of Soro town in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the principal suspect, Auwal Dahiru, lured his younger sister into a nearby bush, where he attacked her and plucked out both of her eyes for alleged money rituals. He and his accomplices have reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and professional investigation to uncover all those connected to the heinous act.

While condemning the barbaric incident, CP Sani-Omolori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served, assuring the public that the suspects will face the full wrath of the law once investigations are concluded.
