The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has rehabilitated the Tomb and Museum of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, the late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, in Bauchi State as part of efforts to preserve his legacy and promote tourism and education.
Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the site while commissioning completed NEDC projects across the state. He said the rehabilitation covered key sections of the facility, including the museum and library, the tomb, reception block, and public conveniences. The minister commended the Commission for delivering a project that honours the memory of the late Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has stressed the need for strong collaboration between the Federal Government and subnational entities to accelerate development.
The governor stated this while receiving the Minister alongside the Board and Management of NEDC during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Bauchi. He described the Commission as a symbol of partnership and shared commitment to improving the welfare of citizens, while appreciating its sustained interventions across the state.
Governor Bala also praised the leadership of NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, for demonstrating commitment and impactful service delivery.
Earlier, Minister Uba Maigari Ahmadu said the visit was part of ongoing supervision and commissioning of NEDC projects across key sectors including education, health, infrastructure and commerce, aimed at improving the lives of residents in Bauchi State.
