Bauchi Youth Group Defends Governor Bala Mohammed, Finance Commissioner Over Terrorism Allegations

The Bauchi State Youth Democratic Assembly has condemned what it described as baseless and politically motivated allegations linking Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Yakubu Adamu, PhD, to the sponsorship of terrorism.

In a statement signed by Daure David on behalf of the Bauchi State Youth Democratic Assembly, the group described the arrest, detention, and prosecution of the Finance Commissioner and some senior civil servants by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as an abuse of legal process and a deliberate attempt to undermine the Bauchi State Government.

The group stated that all financial transactions carried out by the Ministry of Finance were conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions, approved government procedures, and existing financial regulations, insisting that no offence was committed by Hon. Yakubu Adamu or any other official of the state government.

According to the statement, allegations relating to terrorism financing and money laundering lack credible evidence and appear to be an afterthought aimed at intimidating officials and damaging reputations. It noted that no proof of payment, receipts, or documentary evidence linking the Bauchi State Government to any terrorist activity has been presented.

The Assembly further emphasised that Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) grants immunity to a sitting governor from prosecution, warning that any direct or indirect attempt to circumvent this constitutional provision would be unlawful.

The group also noted that Miyetti Allah has not been proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the Federal Government, adding that no terrorist group or specific terrorist act has been identified in the allegations.

Describing the development as political persecution, the youth body cautioned the EFCC against allowing itself to be used as a tool for political intimidation, stressing that the credibility of the anti-graft agency depends on impartiality and professionalism.

The Bauchi State Youth Democratic Assembly reaffirmed its support for Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, commending his administration for maintaining peace and security in the state and recording progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development.

The group called on the EFCC to remove the Governor’s name from all charge sheets and urged the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation to review the matter in the interest of justice, fairness, and national stability.

It concluded by stating that the people of Bauchi State remain united and resolute in defending constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and the integrity of their elected leaders.
