The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, North-West Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Command said the arrests followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. According to the statement, intelligence-led policing was deployed to apprehend the suspected masterminds behind the brutal killings, which occurred on January 17, 2026.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, with a team of crack operatives successfully arresting the suspects.
Those arrested were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly known as “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all in Kano. The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation conducted between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.
The police disclosed that Umar Auwalu, identified as the leader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased housewife, confessed to the crime. He also admitted that the group had allegedly carried out other violent attacks in recent times, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects included four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (locally known as gora), and a sum of money allegedly stolen from the scene. Investigation into the case is ongoing.
The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and appreciated members of the public for their prayers, support, and cooperation. The Command reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.
